From being celebrated as a symbol of modern healthcare reform to becoming a test of Lesotho’s ability to sustainably manage a complex tertiary hospital, Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital (QMMH) has become one of the country’s greatest healthcare challenges.
The challenge deepened following the premature termination of the public-private-partnership agreement between the Government of Lesotho and the Tลกepong Consortium in 2021. Since then, the hospital has been dogged by allegations of corruption, mismanagement and politically influenced hiring.
In the latest development, the Ministry of Health has proposed an ๐ผ๐๐ ๐ก๐๐ก๐ข๐ก๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ค ๐๐๐ ๐น๐ข๐ก๐ข๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐ข๐๐๐ ‘๐๐๐๐โ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ป๐๐ ๐๐๐ก๐๐, a process expected to run from June to October 2026. The concept note was presented to Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on 22 July 2026.
